Solar module costs are rising in China, driven by rapidly accelerating global demand and tight supplies of polysilicon. JinkoSolar is among those who have announced a 3% increase in its module cost – modest in itself, but a significant bucking of the long-term price declines in the sector. Besides the immediate causes, which are a polysilicon industry struggling to keep up with the rest of solar manufacturing, and massively boosted demand thanks to the Biden Administration and China’s upcoming 14th Five-Year Plan, this is also a reminder that silicon photovoltaics have become a mature industry and technology.
