Taizhou Jinneng (Jinergy) has signed a contract to develop a $314 million perovskite-CIGS tandem photovoltaic factory in Changde City, in China’s south-central Hunan province. The complex will include research alongside a production line and supporting facilities including a photovoltaic installation. The solar cells to be produced should have 22% mass-production efficiency, with the company expecting an annual output worth almost $400 million and taxes of almost $50 million. The 22% solar cell efficiency is merely on par with today’s high-quality silicon PV, but production costs will be lower, and the thin-film product will be at an advantage for rooftop and especially façade installations.
