It is rare that we praise economists within this service, but for once this week’s report from the Office of Budget Responsibility, an all-party UK think tank funded by a government act, shows a huge dollop of climate common sense. So often for economist read, “oil apologist” but there is not a whiff of sadness at the loss of the global oil economy in this report, just numbers lined up in a sensible order to demonstrate to whomever governs the UK, and by comparison, other countries in Europe – that fixing climate change is a lot cheaper than living with it.
