SSE Renewables has called for Ireland to raise its 5 GW target for offshore wind capacity by 2030 to a more ambitious figure of 7 GW. The plea was made by the company’s director of offshore wind Maria Ryan at the Energy Ireland 2022 conference in Dublin. She also called for Ireland to establish new stepping-stone or interim targets from 2030 to 2050 to encourage long term investment in the industry and achieve 30 GW of offshore wind capacity in Irish waters.
