Turkey added 4.8 GW of clean power capacity to its grid in 2020 – an impressive showing. However, while hydropower and wind accelerated from past performances, from 2.4 GW and 1.2 GW respectively, solar added just 672 MW. Non-renewable capacity additions were negligible. While the solar figure may leave out many commercial installations in Turkey’s ‘OSB’ industrial zones, it’s still weaker than 2019’s figure, and less than half of the 2.4 GW added in 2018. This coming year will see a revival, thanks to some projects having been delayed by Coronavirus from 2020.
