Small energy suppliers are tumbling out of the UK energy market following a sustained spell of soaring gas prices. With pressure building on governments to ease the pressure on gas-heavy suppliers, pressure too will be placed upon measures designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Rather than bailing out industry laggards, this period of strain could – and indeed should – be used as a means of natural selection on the route to net zero emissions.
