Despite their advanced architectures Verizon and AT&T cannot be complacent about the mobile launches of the two largest cablecos in the US, Comcast and Charter. Comcast has launched its Xfinity Mobile offering and Charter will follow this year with Spectrum Mobile, while the two are saving time and cost by collaborating on back office systems and other platforms, as well as 5G R&D. Altice is planning a 2019 launch, enabled by Sprint. In a survey of 250 consumers by Barclays Research, 40% said they would consider switching from their existing mobile provider to their cableco’s wireless offering.
