Verizon is hardly alone among operators in putting partnerships with hyperscalers, enterprise IT providers and technology vendors at the center of its edge computing strategy. But it has been among the most vocal proponents of a multi-partner approach and eager to trumpet early successes gaining enterprise customers such as fiber optic cable maker Corning and generating revenues quickly. The operator is eager to dispel doubts over the ability of the telco-focused edge platform, ETSI’s Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC), together with private networks, to make substantially greater contributions to revenues under 5G than they did with 4G, even though these are early days.
