Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) are seeing further progress at ‘opposite ends of the scale’ – in both China and in the UK’s liberalized market. In the UK, battery supplier Enphase Energy and VPP company Octopus Energy have begun a strategic partnership in which owners of Enphase solar and storage assets can participate in a smart import and export tariff. The two companies announced their UK partnership in April 2024, and previously introduced a similar program in Texas back in January 2023. In July another UK-based VPP company, Flexitricity, announced it had reached 1 GW of capacity – so a single company aggregating capacity equal to 2% of national peak load, with Octopus also passing the 1 GW mark last year…
