The three main stories we covered in wind power in 2024 were China’s expansion of carbon fiber manufacturing, China’s adoption of ever-larger turbine sizes, and Western OEM’s reliability issues – with a slew of breakages across new plus-size models both onshore and offshore. A fourth less interesting narrative would have been the numbers game – with again China posting very strong installation figures while the West’s progress was patchy. So a situation for the Western industry that seemed mildly negative, especially compared to China’s progress – there have even been the first moves to export Chinese wind turbines.
