Indian billionaire Gautam Adani is usually associated with coal, but of late has had a solar focus and has built a relationship with the Modi administration and has now stepped up to buy SoftBank Energy Holdings for around $3.5 billion, buying the 80% held by SoftBank Group Capital and the rest from India’s Bharti Global in an all cash deal. It adds nearly 5 GW of wind and solar to Adani Green Energy’s renewables. Adani has said he would reach 25 GW of renewables by 2025, and this takes him a big step towards that.
