Speaking to the Convention on Biological Diversity – a global organization which this week held its 15th Meeting of the Parties in Beijing – Xi Jinping stated that among much else China would accelerate its development of large-scale wind and solar in its northern desert provinces, with a first phase of 100 GW to commence development soon. Anecdotes from China’s solar industry point towards a 400 GW “photovoltaic and wind power base project” initiative, some 200 GW which will be built by the end of 2025. This dwarfs even the scale of the recent “county level” rooftop solar incentive program which will see to some 15 GW of photovoltaics this year.
