This week sees two small but interesting acquisitions in the area of mobile video and image processing ‘ Intel has bought Silicon Hive, while the UK’s CSR has taken over Zoran. A year ago, Silicon Hive ‘ like most Dutch hi-tech start-ups, a spin-off from Philips ‘ announced a technology collaboration with its investor Intel, to apply its parallel processing technology to mobile and embedded products based on the Atom processor roadmap. In 2008, Intel had led a $7m investment round in the smaller firm and signed a licensing deal for its technology, and now it has gone a stage further and snapped it up.
