Activity in white spaces spectrum continues to build up, and the UK is vying with the US to lead the world in using these unlicensed frequencies for a range of applications, from broadband to smart grid. UK start-up Neul has announced a commercial device to run in the underused gaps in the broadcast band, targeting rural broadband. In conjunction with its US partner Carlson, it says RuralConnect can deliver 16Mbps speeds on each available vacant TV channel. VP of marketing, Luke d’Arcy, says the device complies with specifications to guard against interference with broadcasters and wireless microphones, including the FCC’s adjacent channel power requirement.
