Communications chip company Mindspeed is being scattered to the four winds, with its assets now split between three acquirers. The bulk of the company was purchased last year by M/A-Com but the small cell and DSP activities ‘ themselves the result of an acquisition, of the UK’s Picochip ‘ were kept out of that deal and went to Intel. Now it emerges that another unit, the Comcerto CPE comms processors, have been sold to Freescale. Comcerto consists of a series of multicore ARM-based embedded processors with associated software and these will be incorporated into the US buyer’s digital networking group.
