Google and Facebook are going head-to-head in a rising number of areas. This week alone, the social media player has moved into mobile payments, while Google has snapped up drone start-up Titan Aerospace, apparently from under its rival’s nose. The search giant has confirmed that it will acquire Titan, which builds UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) that can stay in the sky for years on end. Along with Google’s Project Loon initiative, which uses high altitude balloons, Titan could be part of its new parent’s ambitious plans to bring internet access, and even electricity, to every corner of the world ‘ along with its own web services, of course.
