At the SDN World conference in The Hague last week, ETSI conducted a workshop dedicated to one of its most potentially crucial activities, the search for a new protocol to address the inadequacies of the ubiquitous but ageing specs of today , and enable the full vision of 5G and fixed-line use cases. Launching its first specifications, the Next Generation Protocol (NGP) specification group said it wanted to deliver a protocol specifically designed and optimized for a twenty-first century Internet. It then aims to influence the key communications and Internet standards bodies (3GPP, ETSI, IEEE, IETF and ITU-T) to adopt its recommendations.
