Orsted and partners will receive additional funding from the UK government to progress with the second phase of its ‘green hydrogen initiative.’ The £7.5 million in funding aims to assist the Gigastack project in proving that green hydrogen can be viably produced by offshore wind energy in Britain’s route to net-zero emissions by 2050. Methane emissions from extracting fossil fuels are being “severely underestimated,” with a new study from the University of Rochester, US, reaffirming that human-caused emissions are going vastly unreported. By measuring the relative abundance of the Carbon-14 isotope, the study identifies that methane emissions from fossil fuels are 25% to 40% higher than in earlier estimates.
