Germany has finally announced its increased offshore wind target – which now stands at 20 GW by 2030. After a strong push from energy ministers and transmission system operators (TSOs), this is likely to encourage further ‘green stimulus’ in the country’s economic recovery following Covid-19. However, for the country’s climate targets to be met, legislation will have to provide similar support to onshore renewables. The new 20 GW target for offshore wind, follows requirements in Germany’s 2030 climate protection program, which was released in October last year – although pushing through the legislation has been held up by Covid-19.
