The first British homes will be running on hydrogen within just two months, following a government initiative for two properties in Gateshead to provide a pilot for gas-style boilers and hobs that will operate without using fossil fuels. By April, according to energy minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan, we will have seen a glimpse of how we will “transform the way we power our homes.” Two semi-detached houses in the North-East of the country will use 100% hydrogen for all heating and cooking appliances; in a template which could be replicated nationwide by 2050.
