Transmission system operator, Terna, has granted grid connection permits to Hexicon for its deepwater floating wind projects located off Sardinia, Sicily and Puglia that will amount to 7.1GW. A significant capacity number that will add to Italy’s current overall wind capacity (onshore + offshore) of just under 12GW. The seven Italian project sites are located in waters deeper than 200 meters in the Mediterranean Sea, an area rich in favorable wind speeds. The largest of the seven projects has a capacity of 1GW.
