The aviation industry is facing a major economic problem that should unsettle anyone who has a seat at that particular table. As kerosene and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) are still at the head of the industry’s plans going forward, the operating costs of any airline operator will grow significantly past 2030, so much that their cumulative profits won’t cover the tab. Faced with an emissions problem and a race towards sustainability, airline operators need to make a choice between switching to SAF from kerosene in order to reduce their well to wake emissions or pay for carbon credits and keep using kerosene.
