Following a last minute objection from Germany, the EU has been forced to include an exception to what amounted to a total ban on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles from 2035, allowing the exclusive use of synthetic e-fuels within internal combustion engines after the 2035 deadline. Italy was among the first to make noise about the bloc’s ICE ban following the election of the FDL led by Giorgia Meloni, but it alone didn’t have the required voting power to force a vote on the matter within the EU.
