Investment into battery manufacturing facilities is set to skyrocket from 1,163 GWh of installed global capacity up to 10,092 GWh by 2030, largely driven by regional desire and policy support in establishing domestic manufacturing bases ready for the shift to electric vehicles (EV). Our expectations for EV sales put global battery requirements for passenger vehicles – the largest component for battery demand now and in the future – at 1,050 GWh in 2025 globally. Easily covered by increases in production capacity as long as these factories can be supplied with sufficient raw materials.
