Airlines are on the cusp of a significant milestone with the upcoming 500,000th flight powered by Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in July 2023. Although a nice round number to introduce in a headline, when compared to the 40 million or so flights per year pre pandemic levels, it falls way short and it shows that the industry has been slow in transitioning away from fossil fuels.
