A report seen by European leaders has found that Europe could become as reliant on China for batteries as it was on Russia for energy, the paper will be discussed further by the European Commission on October 5th, but the comparison is already drawing attention. The report comes just a week after the European Commission launched a probe into whether it should apply punitive tariffs to Chinese electric vehicles because of the impacts of Chinese state subsidies, an allegation the Chinese have vehemently denied making clear that any tariffs would seriously damage relations.
