Fixed Wireless Access Market Forecast 2024-2030 - Europe emerges as most valuable region

Fixed Wireless Access provides a valuable expansionist opportunity for operators, and for 5G densification business cases. With 5G rollouts at various phases of the investment cycle, and new spectrum opportunities looming, FWA remains a bright spot for operators.

For the larger operators, which are in the business of providing commercial and enterprise services, FWA could be used as a great upselling tool. For business premises in underserved locations, FWA opens the door for upselling various additional software and networking services. For those using wireless as a failover connection, a robust FWA service could help displace the ISP providing the primary connection. For business with lots of locations, FWA could help reduce the connectivity charges they face, and provide a clear motivation from this total cost of ownership perspective.

There are sharp regional variations, however. Europe is the dominant market by revenue, but is dwarfed in terms of individual connections by APAC – by more than double. However, there are significant advancements in MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America too.

What is clear is that Fixed Wireless Access is not the sole concern of North America, and in particular the USA. For years, that country has dominated the narrative, racking up rapid rural FWA subscriber growth, against an understanding that the nation had reached broadband saturation – evidently not.

Globally, instances of high subscriber counts are often punished with low ARPU. Developing economies are ripe for FWA, and while the success of FWA is something to write home about, each new subscriber almost certainly represents a customer that was immensely frustrated with existing fixed-line offerings.
