Nokia will be relieved to have won a major Open RAN contract with Deutsche Telekom, even though the deal was penciled in almost a year ago. The relief reflects Nokia’s fragility after losing out big time to AT&T for a $14 billion five-year Open RAN contract at the end of last year. Anxiety has been amplified by rumors that T-Mobile US, Nokia’s remaining significant US customer, may be considering a switch to Ericsson for at least a large part of its 5G infrastructure.
