JSC NIIEFA has finalized the preliminary design for Russia’s TRT (tokamak with reactor technologies) fusion reactor, a milestone under the federal KP RTTN project. Developed for Rosatom, TRT features a high-temperature superconducting electromagnetic system, long discharge pulse, and strong magnetic fields, aiming to advance controlled nuclear fusion and hybrid fusion-fission systems. The design outlines core solutions, operating principles, and requirements for critical external systems like cryogenic cooling, vacuum pumping, and power supply. Drawing from knowledge gained in the ITER project in France, TRT also pioneers unique technologies. Construction is targeted for completion by 2030.
