Starlink has been caught up in a tightening of India’s rules for satcom operators just as it was counting down for entry in collaboration with the country’s top two telcos, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The additional constraints seem to have been instigated by the country’s conflict with Pakistan, subject to a ceasefire but with no longer-term resolution at the time of writing. The new guidelines introduced by India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have also been reported as being designed to gain as much advantage for the country’s own satellite industry and associated technology or component providers.
