The deployment of consumer CPE based on Light Fidelity (LiFi) rather than RF transmission by UAE telco du is a significant advance for the technology and also for Edinburgh-based pureLiFi, which has kept the embers alight since its foundation as a university spinout in 2011. The advent of 5G-based FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) has brought the technology in from the cold of minor niches, with du also evaluating it for fiber terminating CPE.
