After months of pressuring, SpaceX finally got its way and will buy the full portfolio of EchoStar’s AWS-4 and H-block spectrum for $19 billion. The deal is a stratospheric elevation for SpaceX, which will no longer need to rely on spectrum leased from MNOs. The deal is no great surprise, given the amount of hassling from SpaceX, alongside EchoStar’s recent sale of $23 billion worth of spectrum to AT&T. T-Mobile told Wireless Watch last week that its direct-to-device (D2D) capabilities would be upgraded to include data in October, perhaps suggesting SpaceX was keeping its US customer in the loop on the sale.
