While all the major equipment vendors are focused on delivering IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) that will integrate services across fixed and mobile networks, in reality there has been significant work to be done to enable the fixed side to catch up, in a standard that was originally conceived by the 3GPP for the cellular community. Now Alcatel is claiming to offer, for the first time, the full set of IMS capabilities for both mobile and fixed carriers.
