China funding EU’s African H2 addiction – does it have to be this way?

China Energy Engineering Group (CEEG) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Moroccan renewables developer Gaia Energy for the construction of a green hydrogen and green ammonia plant that will export its products towards Europe using the Iberian Hydrogen Corridor that is passing through Spain, France and reaches Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. This is the second deal of its kind signed by CEEG in less than half a year – the first being about a green hydrogen project in Egypt. Another North African country that is expected to play a major role in satisfying Europe’s apparently unquenchable thirst for clean hydrogen, but here at Rethink we can’t help but question if things have to be this way or can Europe…
