Wireless Watch, and the wireless community at large, have been cautious of the AI-RAN proposition. Mobile network operators are wise to steer clear of upgrading their RAN sites with expensive GPUs to support AI inferencing at the far edge. They will do better to use their fixed assets, local know-how, and domestic assets to support the sovereign services. As far as what is needed for mobile AI services, the network upgrades are likely to be much less dramatic than the AI-RAN crowd would have you believe is necessary.
