Southwest Airlines and Archer Aviation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop electric air taxi networks using Archer’s eVTOL aircraft at California airports. Southwest will provide this as a door-to-door travel option for its airline passengers. Rethink finds the business case hard to get behind as costs imply too high of a charge in exchange for the convenience provided. Archer’s Midnight aircraft will be faster than a taxi but Uber only has to pay the driver around 50% of what the passenger pays for the ride, keeping the other 50% for profit.
