The Kindle e-book reader may have grabbed all the attention, but Amazon’s mobile activities go a lot further, and this week it has snapped up visual product search company SnapTell to enhance its cellphone offerings. The giant e-retailer paid an undisclosed sum for SnapTell of Silicon Valley, which makes an iPhone application that allows users to take pictures of books, DVDs or other products they want to buy, and connect to an online store to purchase them. This will presumably be targeted only to Amazon’s own shop in future, integrating more closely with that shopping experience, and enhancing the existing product search app that the larger firm already offers for the iPhone.
