The Indian government has stepped up its various ‘Made in India’ programs, with the ambition of creating a homegrown 5G industry – from a manufacturing base for devices and equipment, parallel to the country’s huge software development business, to fostering domestic technology designers, taking advantage of open RAN platforms and the work being done by Reliance Jio. One point in the favor of the ambitious Indian plan is the trade and technology tension between the USA and China, which is driving some US companies to look for alternatives to China to manufacture at least some of their products.
