Verizon and AT&T have become increasingly different beasts in recent years, but one clear parallel is that both made hefty acquisitions to try to transform themselves from telcos into media and content companies, and after severely mixed results, both saw their CEOs step down. At Verizon, the chain of events happened rather earlier, and arguably it has come further in recovering from its mistakes under a new CEO, Hans Vestberg (formerly of Ericsson) who has refocused his strategic vision on networks.
