As industrial M2M usage becomes more data-heavy, MNOs will hope to lure companies to LTE for their private network requirements. Verizon and AT&T have both been expanding their private network offerings around 4G and IoT, and the latter has announced a partnership with Nokia to target US utilities. The offering uses AT&T’s spectrum and Nokia’s LTE technology (RAN, virtualized EPC, IP/MPLS routing and end-to-end management), allowing utilities and their integrators to set up field area networks in their operational footprint. AT&T will also provide optional services such as infrastructure and security.
