Boingo said to be looking for a buyer, with towercos a possible match

Veteran public WiFi operator Boingo Wireless is reported to be considering a sale of the company, possibly to a tower operator. According to anonymous Bloomberg sources, Boingo was approached by the would-be acquirer and is now exploring its options, and other potential offers, with the help of an advisor. It could attract interest from infrastructure firms or private equity investors. Boingo made its name as a WiFi hotspot aggregator in the early days of public WiFi, and then expanded its range of consumer retail wireless services. In recent years, it has placed more emphasis on building up its neutral host and B2B businesses, and says it is now the USA’s largest operator of airport WiFi and DAS (distributed antenna system)…
