The US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory is exploring an unconventional source for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) that could lower production costs. Instead of relying on leftover cooking oils, researchers propose using carbon-rich wastewater from dairy farms as feedstock for SAF production. This approach focuses on methane digestion, which utilizes organic waste to create more cost-competitive fuel. Traditional wastewater treatment methods are carbon-intensive, making this new technique an attractive alternative.
