The Chinese energy agency announced this morning that it will invest $361bn (2.5tn yuan) into new power generation technologies by 2020. The National Energy Administration (NEA) said it plans to invest in a mix of wind, hydro, solar and nuclear technologies which it hopes will contribute 50% of Chinese energy generation by 2050. Much of this promised investment is motivated by growing concerns around air pollution. China currently relies heavily on coal, representing over 60% of its energy generating capacity mix.
