Cisco and Microsoft form a united front for edge-centric IoT

Cisco believes edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) will be important factors in its bid to reverse decline in its service provider business. These are both areas where new revenues, certainly those with decent margins, will mainly come from enterprise and industrial sectors – where most mobile operators have limited strategic presence. Cisco believes that its opportunity with MNOs lies not merely in selling them 5G equipment such as core networks and routers, but in providing them with the wherewithal to improve their own position in enterprise 5G markets via edge and IoT offerings.
