Comcast has joined a growing cast of mobile service providers to have migrated their 5G Cores to one of the big three hyperscale cloud platforms from AWS, Google and Microsoft. Comcast has chosen AWS, which leaves it effectively operating as an MVNO as a provider of 5G services without running either the Core or the RAN. There are four national 5G networks in the US from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and EchoStar’s Boost Wireless, formerly Dish Wireless. Of these, AT&T has migrated its 5G Core to MS Azure, while Dish in April 2021 announced it would rely on AWS for its cloud-based 5G network.
