Comcast said last week and said that just about anyone on its Xfinity network can now order an xFi Pod, which will distribute WiFi throughout the home in a multi-access point (AP) configuration. The xFi Pods come from start-up Plume, which won a deal with Comcast last year. Plume had to write a software agent to run on one home gateway, which can collect KPI (key performance indicator) data about how well each AP is working; and it also had to adapt the agent to the new Xfinity boxes, which are now powered by Quantenna 8 x 8 MIMO chips.
