Dish Network, as a greenfield MNO, is leading the push for the USA to take an early role in driving open 5G networks to scale, and therefore pulling back some industry power and influence for a US-centric ecosystem. The company continues to announce supplier choices that point to a 5G deployment with a wide variety of partners, indicating a truly multivendor platform built on open interfaces, cloud infrastructure and COTS hardware. Of course, as with Rakuten (see separate item), the question remains how effectively Dish monetizes its open, virtualized network once that is rolled out, in 2021.
