Deutsche Telekom and South Korea’s SKT have announced a 50:50 joint venture which focuses on distributed antenna systems (DAS), a key technology to address the long-standing challenge of achieving strong indoor coverage and quality for cellular networks. The JV will be headquartered in Germany and will target a market that the operators believe will grow significantly in the next few years, as DAS – traditionally a technology for very large buildings and venues – becomes cheaper and more broadly applicable on the back of digital technologies and 5G.
