Operators and vendors talked about in general terms about “openness” and “trust” at MWC this year, but the European Commission’s (EC’s) Henna Virkkunen, drew a very clear line in the sand in her speech. Virkkunen, who is the Executive Vice President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, spoke at length about trust in Europe and described the efforts to combat “un-trusted” suppliers. She is, of course, referring to China’s main telco vendors Huawei and ZTE, at a conference where the former has the largest presence of any company at the event.
