Swiss long duration storage specialist Energy Vault has made a firm order for 10 GWh of a recently announced “Wending” LFP battery from a Chinese subsidiary of the Tsingshan Group, one of the foremost steel companies in China. Energy Vault has its own long duration energy storage technology based on lifting weights in a specially designed building called EVx (see picture), but in developing software to manage it, it has managed to partner that with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) as well, with almost half of its announced projects involving lithium ion batteries, or hybrids with both gravity and lithium ion.
